A baseball like asteroid falls from the sky and smashes through the window of a boy named Josh. He brings this to school for show and tell not knowing that the "orb" is going to be used by aliens to extract salt from the earth's seas to save their own planet from deteriorating. Shortly after the orb's landing, a human sized and human shaped comet lands in New York. The "human capsule" is being commanded by Dave (Eddie Murphy) and his crew of 100 unemotional and highly intelligent aliens. As the aliens try to retrieve the orb from Josh and his mom, they learn how to feel and how it is to be human. Will the aliens learn enough not to push through with their plans of extracting the salt from the sea which will destroy the earth?
