Cody is a penguin who strives to become like his surf idol "Big Z", but as little Cody grew up his idol died in a surfing accident. Then forcing his way into entering the Big Z Memorial Surf Contest he humiliates himself on the first day. Cody then meets an old surfing hermit who helps him surf better and to Cody's surprise the old hermit turns out to be Big Z.
