The movie is set in Mississippi 1937. When Everrett Ullysus McGill a convict breaks out from prison with two other inmates, his next goal is to find the stashed loot buried near his place and live the comfortable life. But before he even gets to the loot he faces bumps in the road as if they were signs from heaven doing some divine intervention.
