Empire Of The Sun

The movie is set in Shanghai, China when it was besieged by the Japanese back in 1941 (World War II). The main character of the movie is Jim Graham (Christian Bale), an English boy who was separated from his parents at the time when the British were being evacuated from Shanghai.

Jim found his way into a POW camp where he became a servant to the Japanese and to those who were captured. In the camp, Jim learns how to hustle and negotiate his way out of things, but with the influence of Basie (John Malkovich), a captured American operator. Eventually, the two learn how to survive with each other and form a bond of friendship.

It is a heart-warming movie amidst all the violence and war.
