The pentagon setup a project called the "Human Hibernation Project" which is designed to preserve the best and most talented pilots the military has. But as a test they Bauers (Luke Wilson), the most under-achieving and most average pilot. They also pick Rita, a prostitute who agreed to be a test subject in exchange for her criminal charges to be dropped. The project which was scheduled to run for only a year is abandoned because the officer in charge to head it was caught up in a scandal. So Bauers and Rita was forgotten for the longest time until the wake up in the year 2505. When they wake up, they soon find out that the country is run by a bunch of idiots and they find themselves to be the smartest people in the country.

This movie is about a German-American pilot Dieter Dengler's (Christian Bale) struggle to escape from Laos. When his plane got shot down he gets abducted by the local Laos soldiers where he is held captive. In prison, he encounters 5 mentally ill prisoners whom he plans his escape with, but things go wrong when an unforeseen betrayal happens and splits the group. With food supply also running out due to US bombings, Dieter learns that the guards intend to kill them instead. Will they be able to escape alive?

The movie starts out with an old man reading a story to an old woman about a young couple, Noah Calhoun (Ryan Gosling) and Allie Hamilton (Rachel McAdams) who met in a carnival. The couple soon falls in love with each other but Allie’s parents disapproved of Noah because of his unwealthy family. So Allie moves away and gets engaged to a young soldier named Lon. After several years without any word from Noah Allie decides to visit his home to see if he is okay. It is evident that Allie still has feelings for Noah and vice versa but Allie has to make a choice between the two men in her life, the man she is engaged to or the man who she fell in love with.
